Character Application:

Name: Marguerite Claudette Mayfair
Journal: [info]darkmayfair
Fandom: The Lives of the Mayfair Witches
Continuity Point In Fandom: After the birth of her last child Katherine, before the onset of her madness and the decline of her health.
PB: Angelina Jolie
Age: mid 30's
Personality: Marguerite was a rebellious woman of the Georgian era. Unsatisfied with the ethos that women must be demure, obedient, and poised, Marguerite did everything she could to make a spectacle of herself. Dressing provocatively by the day's standards and behaving more like a man, she was a subject of gossip for the wealthy society in New Orleans. Something of a loose woman Marguerite took many lovers in her day both male and female. In contrast to her recreational activities, her extensive education afforded her a large vocabulary, the mean's to handle the family fortune, and the civility to blend into elite society.

While the more stanch members of the family looked down on Marguerite, she was adored by the servants and slaves. Unlike the other witches in the family, Marguerite seemed to be the only one actually interested in the Occult. She collected many books on the subject of magic and stockpiled dozens of herbs, charms, and fetishes from the Caribbean. Due to the inbreeding of generations past in the family, Marguerite is prone to a touch of madness. Though she is in no way insane, she sometimes struggles to keep a grip on reality. She is also known for having a fiery temper. Despite these character flaws Marguerite is a devoted and loving mother to her three children. She has taken pains to ensure that her sons and daughter are given every advantage luxury in life.

Canon Puncturable: At this point Marguerite does not know that she is fictional or that she is from a series of books.
Special Abilities/Skills:
Limited Mind Reading: While Marguerite is not psychic or able to probe another's mind in depth, she is able to catch surface thoughts when in close proximity of another. However this ability can be chalked up more to skill at reading body language and gestures than actually reading minds. Make no mistake she can hear the thoughts of others, but she is not telepathic.
Limited Psychometry: If Marguerite picks up an object she can usually determine who last touched it or where it came from. Again this is a limited ability and she cannot always access it with ease. This gift along with her mind reading is an ability inherent in her family.
Extensive Knowledge of the Occult: Marguerite's knowledge of the Occult is by far her greatest resource. This makes her Unique among the witches of her family, as most other witches in the Mayfair clan have never tried to discover the source of their powers. She has studied both the folk magic of Europe and the Voodoo of the slaves of New Orleans.
Weak Glamour Magic: While Marguerite cannot change her appearance drastically or shape-shift, she can enhance her natural beauty to make herself more enticing. She generally does this buy dusting herself with a powder made from Gardenia flowers, and Orris Root.
Seduction: Thanks to her natural beauty and overt sexuality, Marguerite is very adept at seducing people. A few choice words or a glace from her brilliant green eyes can hook a man, and sometimes a woman, rather easily.
Character History: The seventh of the Mayfair witches since Suzanne, Marguerite was born to Marie Claudette Mayfair. Born in 1799, she is the third of Marie Claudette's children. She was born outside New Orleans on the family Indigo plantation. Up until she was brought to Delaware she lived in the lap of luxury. She was a delicate child with dark hair and large slightly upturned green eyes. Considered a beauty, her nurses called her "La Petite Gypsy". The carefree days of her childhood was also peppered with numerous appearances of Lasher. And, like her mother she took a great liking to the family spirit, allowing him to indulge her flights of fancy. As she grew into woman hood her relationship with Lasher deepened, and Marguerite learned of the family's long laid plans to help the family ghost become flesh and blood again.

As Marguerite reached maturity she was also presented with a family heirloom, an emerald necklace which had been gifted to the family by Lasher. She had her portrait painted wearing the Emerald necklace when she was eighteen. This picture would come to hang in the front parlor of the First Street mansion in New Orleans. She eventually married Tyronne Clifford McNamara when she was twenty, against the wishes of Marie Claudette. He was a handsome opera singer that toured around the United States. In 1827 and 1828, she gave birth to Remy and Julien. Tyronne was famous for his womanising, drinking and getting into brawls. In 1829, Tyronne and an Irishwoman, presumably his mistress, were found dead after a fire in the French Quarter. It is said that Marguerite sent her devil to take care of the two and that she knew more about Voodoo than any black person in Louisiana.

At Riverbend, she had a study full of horrible and disgusting things such as human skulls, stuffed and mounted swamp animals, trophy heads from African safaris and animal skin rugs. There was also many bottles and jars with many people claiming to have seen body parts in them. During this time, there were many sightings of Lasher accompaning Marguerite, he was thought to be her lover or companion. People were puzzled as to who he was and how he came and went saying. This was the first time Lasher had been spoken of in such a way in over one hundred years. Marguerite re married almost immediately after Tyronne's death to Arlington Kerr, who vanished six months later. It is rumoured that Arlington was murdered and ended up in a collection of Marguerite's jars. Before his disappearance, Marguerite conceived, giving birth to Katherine in 1830.

As the Mississippi River expanded it began to swallow up the land around the family plantation. Realizing that the river would eventually claim all of their land, Marguerite, and her three children moved into a mansion on First Street that had been built for them. It was from this house that Marguerite vanished. She woke up in a strange room in Delaware. Uncertain how she arrived there or why she was rocketed 200 years into the future, Marguerite is now trying to adjust to her new life. With none of her fortune, and no sign of Lasher, she is not sure what move to make next. Currently she is seeking employment and staying at seedy motel in town with the little bit of money she had on her personage at the time of her arrival.
